Re-Take Your Health
Loss of part of our health is among the most disturbing things that could happen to us. Whether the awareness comes suddenly following an event like an injury, or an event like a heart attack, or slowly as in the diagnosis of a chronic illness, the sense of loss is real.

Emotional awareness-- the first step in re-taking our health
We may experience any number of emotions commonly associated with loss and grief such as denial, anger, frustration, anxiety as well as fear and remorse. These emotional responses can keep us from taking action that might help us overcome or even reverse the condition resulting in loss of some or all of our health. Recognizing that we are experiencing these or any number of other emotions is an important first step in the process of re-taking our health.
Additional resources may be needed
Some of these emotions we can deal with on our own. It may simply take us a certain amount of time to experience and work through each one of them. For other emotions we may need to gain additional information that will help us recognize and respond appropriately to the emotion we are experiencing at the moment. At times we may need a support system, a setting in which we can express our emotions and receive appropriate feedback to help us respond to these various emotions.
Experiencing the various emotions and responding appropriately sounds like a very simple thing to do. In reality, the difficulty of doing this keeps many people from doing the things that would enable them to retake their health. It can seem overwhelming to view the whole task of returning to good health
Knowing what to do is not enough
Wouldn't it be wonderful if just knowing we have a problem and what it would take to overcome that problem was all that was required to solve the problem? The solution is easy to recognize
I believe the missing ingredient is something so simple that it is right in front of us and so difficult that it eludes us most of the time. The secret is to believe that we can do what it will take to retake our health and that it will work for us. The good news is that we can accomplish this. What we need is some combination of an awareness of the problem, the information to develop a strategy for change, and the necessary resources and support system to accomplish the change.
